College Extracurricular Activities: Sports. Athletics
Colleges of the XXIst century differ from the colleges of the past century by the new vision of student education. Nowadays professional education is not enough for young people to integrate into the society and be successful. Some social and psychological skills and knowledge are also needed. For this purpose a lot of higher education establishments have involved various extracurricular activities for students.
Influence on Students
It is no secret that except the entertainment provided by numerous extracurricular activities they have particular influence on students that is much more important then the primary one. Except skills specific to their career, students have the opportunity to develop and improve leadership traits necessary not only for the future career but for personal future life. Student interaction, formation of social relationships, and ability for discussion are developed through the involvement into the group activities. Cooperating outside of the college with various groups of individuals gives the opportunity to become more self-confident, independent in thinking and acting.
Athletics
The overwhelming majority of contemporary colleges and universities all over the world provide various types of athletics. Student interested in sports may become members of sports teams such as volleyball, soccer, basketball. It is no secret that practicing any sports requires a great amount of time and vital energy for practicing, training, and competing. Competing in sports prepares students for competing in life: at the working place or in private life situations. As a rule, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and tennis sport clubs invite players of different skill levels. For the students who actually prefer not participation in sport activities but only watching collegiate sports and providing assignments writing and papers writing on them, there are so-called spirit organizations that propose students to become cheerleaders of particular sport team. Cheerleading is also an activity that requires great patience and cooperation.
